The harvest festival goes by many names: Lammas/Lughnasadh and the Northern European Pagan Tradition Freyfaxi/Loaffest and Anglo-Saxon Hláfmæst. Below is a video that shares some of the history associated with this Wheel of the Season.

Mint tea in glass mugMint is an ancient herb close to the Druids, as it is known for its protection and healing powers. Mint attracts abundance to one’s life, so during your Lughnasadh ritual, make yourself a cup of mint tea. It is cooling in the hot summer months and you can drink it hot or iced to cool you from the inside out, honoring your body and blessing it with seasonal health.

Some of us like to partake of a glass of wine as our ceremonial libation. Be sure to clip off a piece of grape vine (ask the plant’s permission first and take only what you need) and honor it’s work on your alter, thanking it for the fruit of it’s labors.

The moon is full and so are the berries. If you also wish to add a snack as an offering to your alter, clip off a piece of blackberry bramble with fruit and thank the plant for the blackberries as you appreciate the juiciness of its offering to you.

If you are like me, you’ll want to add some incense to your ceremony. Frankincense, sandalwood and copal all represent the patience it takes to create the incense formed from dried resin.
